About Us

The Thematic unit of Clinical medicine was created in 2005 in a major restructuring excercise within the University.

The Thematic unit of Clinical Medicine comprises of specialty based thematic areas of Neurology, Infectious diseases, Respirology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Haematology, Oncology, Dermatology and Rheumatology.

The  Thematic unit services the MBChB and BDS undergraduate academic programmes and MDS, MSc Neurology and MSc Unitid postgraduate courses; all in the form of didactic lectures and Clinical teaching.

The thematic unit conducts a three year Masters course MMed in Internal Medicine.

Members of staff are actively involved in research activities in their respective thematic areas.

The Thematic unit also provides consultancy services to the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The Thematic unit is currently housing International Collaboration projects in Medical Education (PACE), HIV care and treatment in Nairobi (PACT), Central province HIV care and treatment implementation and sustainability (CRISSP) and HIV care and treatment in Nairobi Centres of Excellence (PACT-COE).

OBJECTIVES

  • To train in teaching, research and healthcare delivery systems.
  • To produce health service providers with knowledge and skills required in carrying their duties.
  • To generate, disseminate and preserve new knowledge and skills.
  • To conduct continuing education, to instill skills, discipline, service driven and ethical graduates.
